National Convention a Big Success

last April 19-22, was generally hailed by the 60 plus participants as a big success.

Theologico-Canonical and Pastoral Aspects of Political Life
"CBCP
threatens sanctions vs politicking priests." Thus
declared a recent report in a national daily. "CBCP
president and Davao Archbishop Fernando Capalla said
canon law prohibits Catholic ministers from endorsing
politicians and parish priests found guilty of violating
the injunction will be stripped of their parishes" (Philippine
Star, 27.I.2004, p.6). On the other hand, the CBCP
President reiterated "the call to the Catholic
laity to exercise their Christian responsibility
and noble calling to be involved in politics through
education in social responsibility, non-partisan
poll watching and in the conscientious choice of
candidates."

2003 CLSP National
Convention in Metro Manila
In the Business Meeting held last 1 May 2003 during the 11th CLSP National Convention
in Bacolod City, the delegates unanimously decided to held the next National
Convention in Metro Manila, with CLSP Secretary Fr. Jaime B. Achacoso as Convention
Chairman. The body tasked him with determining the exact venue and proposing
the convention theme.

Officers, Board Members and Committee Chairmen.
A new set of officers, board members and standing committee chairmen were elected
in the Business Meeting held last 1 May 2003 during the 11th CLSP National Convention
in Bacolod City. New Officers of the Canon Law Society of the Philippines (2003-2005)

Proposed
new CLSP Logo
Pursuant to the resolution in the 10th National Convention (Kalibo, 2002), the
initial renderings for a new CLSP Logo (two were presented at that time) were
passed to Fr Javier Gonzalez of the Committe on Ongoing Development for him to
tap the students of UST to improve on the design. After a year and many proposals,
a design was singled out which met initial approval of the CLSP Expanded Executive
Committee meeting last April 4, 2003. This will be presented for final approval
during the Business Meeting in the forthcoming 11th CLSP National Convention

The Winning Numbers for the CLSP Millennium Raffle were drawn last December 10,
2002, at the Penthouse, Octagon Bldg, ADB Ave., Ortigas Center, Pasig City.

Raffle Draw: The Millennium
Raffle
The Millennium Raffle will be drawn as scheduled on December 10, 2002, at 10
a.m. at the Penthouse, Octagon Bldge, ADB Ave., Ortigas Center, Pasig City. Last
appeal to dispose of the tickets (considered sold) asigned and distributed to
the members.
Necrology Note
Msgr. Artemio Baluma, CLSP principal member and former officer, passed away last
27 October 2002. Burial shall be on 5 November 2002 in Maribuhoc (Bohol)
